Pastor Russell Gary Lee

I am Pastor Russell Gary Lee and I was born in Lynchburg Virginia on May 22, 1961. I was educated in the Amherst County School system and graduated with a diploma in 1979. I played high school basketball winning two varsity Seminole district championships with our team. In October 2019 our team was inducted into the Amherst County sports department Hall of Fame!

I accepted the Lord at an early age and had the advantage of growing up in a Godly home. I fell in love with gospel music in my teens and was soon performing on stage with all types of gospel music groups. After High school, I joined the military, where I was trained as an aircraft mechanic.

After the military, I moved back home and after working locally to earn a living, I met the love of my life; my wife Gale Lee. We have four wonderful children and 5 grandchildren along with a host of family and friends.

Received General studies at CVCC, studied Homiletic's and the EK Baily’s preachers conference. I received my certificate in ministry at Virginia University of Lynchburg and my Associates degree from the Eastern Theological Seminary!

Since October 2003, I have served as the spiritual overseer of the Scott Zion Baptist Church. I am responsible for guiding the spiritual life of the membership of Scott Zion Baptist Church, along with leading the spiritual aspects of a church. I am also responsible for providing administrative leadership, encouraging team ministry, leading church staff meetings and supervising the pastoral and ministry staff and other support staff.

I serve as the main preacher/teacher and I deliver a prepared message to the congregation. To prepare for each weekly service, I study the Bible (both the Old and New Testaments) and plan a sermon based on that study. I construct messages using a responsible and educated interpretation of the Scriptures.

I will usually relate Scripture to everyday experiences to encourage the congregation's spiritual faith, beliefs and practices. The overarching purpose of the sermon is to call the congregation to personal faith in Christ, to repentance, spiritual growth, service and evangelism.

One of my favorite scriptures is:

Revelation 12:11 (NKJV)

11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.

To God be the Glory hope to see you soon!
